Disney is going to save the rainforest

Disney is a subject that is usually controvercial when being discussed in womens studies for the way their movies are characterized, but this time it is good news that is being reported.

"Disney had announced it would plant one tree in Brazil's endangered Atlantic rain forest for every viewer who saw the movie during its first week. According to Disney, the box-office tally hit $16.1 million, which translates to 2.7 million trees. The trees are being planted by the Nature Conservancy, which is trying to reforest 2.5 million acres in the rain forest."

I think that this is one of the most fantastic things that they can do. Everyone has been trying to find ways to save the rainforest for years and every little bit helps, but this is something that can actually make a big impact in saving the rain forrest. Our enviromnent has declining for decades, and now everyone is on the "green kick," so this is a major thing that could help clean the air up a little. Granted the trees are being planted in Brazil, but that is where the rain forrest is, and so many animals and medical treatments come from there so we need to save it. The opening week is over so now people cant go see it to say that they helped the enviromnent, but instead why doesnt everyone go plant one tree themselves and that will help save our environment around in our area too. =)

  1. Disney is a great organization and as much as people believe it to be overtaking our children with their fancy toys and their movies, Disney has always really given back to society. Doing the rainforest thing is really helping with the going green plan that everyone is trying to take on and seeing a company that is thriving off millions help out is amazing. And no matter the place that the rainforest is being planted it is benefiting the earth. This will give children the opportunity to understand how important it is to be green!

  3. I was so happy to hear that Disney is going to plant trees in Brazil. Honestly, I think I am so happy because it's Brazil! I have 2 blue and gold macaws, and they are both from Brazil where this beautiful bird is almost extinct! Disney is a powerful company and if others see that Disney is giving back in this huge way, maybe they will also!

  4. This is an amazing thing that Disney has done. Instead of directing their profits into the hands of those who produced it, they are putting it instead into making the rainforest thrive again. The major difference that it will make in the rainforest with that many trees will be amazing. Disney may be able to be critisized for its affect with characters, but it certainly takes a back seat to the greatness they just provided.

  5. I am happy that Disney is spending their money on trees to save the rainforest. Everyone is talking about going green in the US so why not help Brazil as well when thats where the rainforest is? I'm glad that disney is finally giving back to people after all the money the make over the years.

  6. I love that Disney is helping the rainforest. I also love when organizations donate to good causes. This is the only Earth we have, so we need to take good care of it.

  7. I think that this is a great idea on Disneys part. The Disney company is worth billons and they will be able to plant a lot of trees while encouraging people to do the same and care about their environment.

  8. I think that its a great idea that Disney its helping out the environment, when they have the resources to do so. This should set a great example for others who want to make a change. Also it allows others to help make the change that they want to see.
